Summer Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to summer term at Pen y fro Primary School! smiley

The Summer Term is always a busy and exciting phase of the school year. Our central topic for the first half term is ‘Cymru Creadigol’ (‘Creative Wales’). For the second half term we will focus on the Olympics with a topic entitled ‘Going for Gold’. We will align our studies with the six areas of learning in the Welsh curriculum (Literacy, Languages and Communication, Mathematics and Numeracy, Science and Technology, Humanities, Expressive Arts and Health and Well-Being).

Throughout the term, Year 4 will be involved in the exciting and enriching ‘Enterprise Challenge 2024’ with other Swansea based schools. Through the challenge, the children will become mini entrepreneurs. They will work together to conceptualise, design and produce their own products to sell at the Enterprise Challenge market stall. This will hopefully take place in the last two weeks of June.

PE will take place on Monday and Tuesday. Forest School will take place on Wednesday. Please make sure your child has the appropriate clothing for the weather during these outdoor sessions. It can get very muddy down in the forest!

Our trip this term will be to the Gower Heritage Centre, where we will be learning more about our beautiful local landscape, the Gower. The children will learn more about the history of the area, meet some local artists and create their own art to take home! We also have the beach trip to look forward to!  smiley

Homework activities will be issued on a Friday, via Teams, to be handed in by the following Wednesday. The spelling words for the children to make spelling sentences each week will also be located in the files section of Teams. Spelling and times table tests will take place on a Friday. Each week for homework the main task will alternate between a maths task and a topic-related task from the homework grid (the grid is below if you need reminding), which will be generated using children’s planning ideas in school. The new topic related homework grid will also be available in the files section of Teams. We will also use MyMaths for some of the maths homework activities.

Thank you all for your help and support so far this year. It is really appreciated. We look forward to a fun and exciting term.

Many thanks,

Miss A Shaw.
