Additional Learning Needs

At Pen y fro Primary School we recognise that all pupils come to school at different stages of development and with different needs. We are committed to supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) in accordance with the Welsh Government’s ALN framework. Pupils are supported by class teachers, teaching assistants, other adults and their learning environment.

At Pen y fro we strive to:

  • Meet the needs of all pupils through excellent teaching strategies, classroom organisation, differentiation and access to a broad, balanced curriculum
  • Embed Universal Provision throughout the school that addresses the needs of all pupils
  • Ensure early identification of a pupils’ needs
  • Implement a truly pupil-centred approach where the pupils, parents, school and outside agencies are involved in planning to support pupils with ALN
  • Ensure that parents are kept regularly informed of their child’s progress
  • Ensure that ALN pupils are involved, where practical, in decisions affecting their future ALN provision
  • Work effectively in partnership other agencies e.g. Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapists, Autistic Spectrum Disorder Specialist Teacher, Social Workers, School Nurse etc
