Welcome to our Year 3 class page. Here you will find useful information and reminders related to our general routines and activities, as well as links to helpful websites and online resources.

It will also be a space to share and celebrate some of the interesting and exciting activities we have been carrying out in class.

Summer Term Class Information 

Dear Parents/ Carers, 

This term’s topic will be ‘Land Ahoy!’ Get ready to take to the high seas and set sail in search of treasure! This term, we will read information books about pirates including the famous Welsh pirate Barti Ddu, we’ll find out about amazing sea rescues and some interesting sea creatures. Our Science and Technology skills will help us to understand how boats float and we’ll design and make model ships using a variety of materials (please keep hold of your old junk!). We’ll study paintings of boats and do some of our own. Our map reading skills will help us to identify different seas and oceans, and we’ll learn about some famous sea explorers. Stories of pirates will inspire us to make pirate flags, treasure maps and fact files. We’ll even find out how to sing a shanty! We will learn about the dangers of the sea and how to keep safe and look forward to our annual visit to the seaside. We be working collaboratively with Year 1 and 3 as Criw Carw and looking forward to integrated learning during Thrive Time. If you have any books, photos or other resources related to this topic that you think may support your child’s learning, please send them into school for show and tell.   

Many of our class routines will remain unchanged from Spring Term:

• PE lessons will take place on a Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child has appropriate kit for PE

• Spelling and mental maths tests will be carried out every Friday morning. Pupils have received copies of their weekly spelling words and maths questions. Please ensure that your child prepares in advance for these tests.

• Forest school will be on a Friday afternoon. Please ensure that your child has suitable ‘named’ clothing for these activities, including appropriate footwear. Due to the lack of space in the classroom, it will not be possible for the children to leave their Forest school wear in school.

• Pupils will need to complete a task from the ‘Land Ahoy’ homework grid every other week (starting from 19.4.24). The first task will need to be completed by the following Friday (26.4.24).

• The children can bring fruit for break time either in their lunchbox or in a small tub which they can keep in their individual trays, they are also required to bring a bottle of water which we are able to refill as and when throughout the day.  Please ensure that these are all labelled.

• Our class Welsh mascot ‘Cadi y Crwban’ will be sent home with one of the pupils each week to spend the weekend with them. Please can you encourage your child to write (in Welsh) about their weekend in the notebook that will be inside the bag. There are also guide sheets and a Welsh dictionary inside the bag to help the children. Photos and drawings are also welcome.

• Please ensure that your child has their book bag and ‘reading record’ in school Monday to Thursday.  Please listen to your child read as often as possible and make a weekly comment in the record. A discussion with your child about what he/ she has read can also help to check understanding.
