Spring Term Class Information

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda! I hope you all had a nice, relaxing break over the Christmas Period.

This term, much of our work with be based on our new topic, ‘Spellbound’. This is a Science and Technology based topic which will involve lots of exciting, magical themed experiments and investigations. The children will be involved in planning focused tasks and missions and their ideas will form the basis of our learning. Criw Carw, Year 1 and Year 2, will work collaboratively with us and we will look to work across the progression step during Thrive Time.

If you have any books, photos or resources at home which you may think to be relevant to our new topic we would invite and encourage them to be brought into school for show and tell.

Many of our class routines will remain unchanged from Autumn Term:

  • PE lessons will take place on a Wednesday. Please ensure that your child has appropriate kit for PE

  • Spelling and mental maths tests will be carried out every Friday morning. Pupils have received copies of their weekly spelling words and maths questions. Please ensure that your child prepares in advance for these tests.

  • Forest school will be on a Friday afternoon. Please ensure that your child has suitable ‘named’ clothing for these activities, including appropriate footwear. Due to the lack of space in the classroom, it will not be possible for the children to leave their Forest school wear in school.

  • The children can bring fruit for break time either in their lunchbox or in a small tub which they can keep in their individual trays, they are also required to bring a bottle of water which we are able to refill as and when throughout the day.  Please ensure that these are all labelled.

  • Please ensure that your child has their book bag and ‘reading record’ in school Monday to Thursday.  Please listen to your child read as often as possible and make a weekly comment in the record. A discussion with your child about what he/ she has read can also help to check understanding.

I look forward to seeing you throughout the course of the term and please contact me should you have any worries or concerns.

Kind regards,

Mr N Hopkins

Year 3 Teacher
